Tim Mitchell has been a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Southampton since 2000. He has a subspecialty interest in ear surgery and cochlear implants. He has a major interest in education and assessment, having been an MRCS examiner for 15 years, Chair of the Court of Examiners overseeing the MRCS and Diploma of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in Otolaryngology. He was elected to the Council of RCS England in 2017 and is Chair of the Learning Committee and Future Surgeons Forum.
Working with the RCS Women in Surgery network, during his time as Chair of the Court of Examiners, Tim was instrumental in achieving a significant increase in the number of female MRCS examiners. He has supported female surgeons in developing their roles within RCS England and other organisations through his role as a mentor for the RCS Lady Estelle Wolfson Emerging Leaders programme. As Chair of the RCS Future Surgeons Forum and through social media, he has sought to encourage recruitment into surgery from all backgrounds, providing particular support for women and other underrepresented groups
