Treasurer’s Role and Responsibilities

Role Summary

The Treasurer is a Trustee of the MWF Charity for the term of Office. The roles and responsibilities of Trustees are outlined by the Charity Commissioners. The Treasurer is responsible to the MWF Council (as Trustee) and Officers. 

The Treasurer is responsible to the MWF Council in ensuring the appropriate financial management of the Grant and General Funds. The Treasurer is responsible for confirming the designated accountant’s report for the Annual MWF Report presented to the AGM in May. The Treasurer is responsible for checking and responding to MWF business plans.

The Treasurer shall hold office for a term of three years, but may be elected for one further three year term.

General responsibilities

As an executive officer of the MWF:

To promote the MWF to colleagues, peers and various other stakeholders 
To represent MWF at conferences, meetings and other relevant events
To use Social Media appropriately representing MWF
The successful individual will be a member of the MWF and be committed to its aims.
 

Working with other Officers

·         In conjunction with the other officers to monitor the MWF’s policies and procedures to ensure that they are up to date and comply with current legislation and best practice

·         To prepare reports for Medical Woman as necessary

·         To prepare reports for MWF Council meetings as necessary

·         To partake in assessment of grants and awards

To support the President & Central Office

·         To support the Office staff to maintain adequate cash flow and appropriate financial management of the Grant and General Funds.

·         To help guide the Federation in all its undertakings ensuring that the MWF works to fulfil the aims and objectives of the constitution

·         To help guide the strategic direction of the MWF ensuring that they are financially sound

 

To attend the following meetings and prepare Treasurer’s reports as appropriate 

·         Officers meetings based in the Central Office and prepare Treasurer’s agenda and present the treasurer’s report

·         Bi-annual MWF Council meetings & providing a Treasurer’s report 

·         The Annual General Meeting of the MWF & providing a Treasurer’s report 

·         Bi-annual MWF Conference 

·         Any other meetings that may be required

Specific responsibilities 

·         To support developing strategies for increasing membership and funds for MWF

·         To be dual administrator for e-banking

·         To sign cheques (as co-signatory for MWF General and Grant Funds)

·         Read financial statements (including investment statements) and bring to the attention of the President and Officers any issues of concern

·         To contribute to the risk assessment of all accounts 

·         To assist in checking and developing and responding to MWF business plans.

·         To contribute to the assessment of grant, awards and staff appraisals

·         To plan for maintenance of/ increase in funding sources 

·         To be the lead in responding to questions on accounts and all financial matters/ queries related to MWF accounts

·         To use personal and professional development opportunities to learn best practice in Charity funding and management 

 

Travel expenses

·         Travel expenses (economy advance rail/coach fares) or airfares from Northern Ireland/Scotland /Wales will be reimbursed for the cheapest available route.
