Professor Chloe Orkin - MWF President Elect
Professor Chloe Orkin is past Chair of the British HIV Association (BHIVA). She is a Clinical Professor of HIV Medicine at Queen Mary University of London. She has been a Consultant Physician at Barts Health NHS Trust for the past 16 years where she provides care for people living with HIV and runs a busy clinical trials unit. Her specialist interest is Anti-retroviral therapy about which she speaks regularly internationally as a plenary speaker.
Professor Orkin led the ‘Going Viral’ blood-borne virus testing campaign and is leading efforts to implement routine blood-borne virus testing in the emergency department. She has more than 120 peer-reviewed publications. She is a medical activist and has worked to improve the lives of people living with HIV in the UK by providing medical evidence that challenges societal stigma on issues such as HIV transmission through spitting and biting, Civil Aviation Authority legislature about HIV positive pilots, conditions for immigration detainees, and sharing the medical records of migrants. Under her leadership BHIVA has been acknowledged as global leader and early champion of the U=U (undetectable=untransmittable) campaign.
Currently, Chloe is leading the Barts Health NHS Trust COVID-19 clinical research response including the vaccine effort.
She is highly committed to addressing societal stereotypes and prejudices pertaining to gender, sexuality, sexual identity, disability and ethnic minorities.
