“How can the new government support women doctors?”

Dear Prime Minister
By Roshni Vinda

Dear Prime Minister, as you chart our course anew, I write to bring a matter into view. In the sterile wards and hallways, where the light of healing shines brightly through the night, women doctors labour with a boundless grace, yet often face a challenging embrace.

Imagine how their lives could shift and soar, with support that opens every door: Childcare
services, so crucial, near, to ease the daily burden, worry and fear.
For every shift they work, each patient’s call, let’s build a system where no mother falls.

And mentoring, a beacon in the storm, to guide and shape, and help their talents warm. A
programme where experience is shared, to nurture growth and show how much they’re
cared.

Equal pay, a cornerstone of esteem, where dedication meets a fairer dream. No longer
should their worth be measured thin, but matched with every contribution they bring.

Flexible hours, a bridge that bends with need, to harmonise their work with life’s own speed.
Allowing them to thrive in every role, balancing the heart with the mind and soul.

And as we dream of policies that mend, consider also who our leaders send: A Health
Secretary who’s wise and keen, but also a woman, whose experience is seen.
Her voice will echo in the halls of health, reflecting needs, fostering true wealth.

In this new chapter, let’s envision a day, when women doctors are seen in their own way. No longer mistaken for the roles they’re not but recognized for all the skills they’ve brought.
A shift in language, and respect that’s due, to honour their expertise in all they do.

Support these changes with a thoughtful hand, so women doctors may, with strength,
expand. Their gifts to medicine, a light so bright, deserve the framework to reach a greater
height.

In every policy you craft and choose, let equity and care be the muse. For in uplifting these
resilient souls, we build a future where all hearts are whole.
