The Medical Women’s Federation strongly supports the new best practice guidance which will be published soon by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists stating that doctors and healthcare workers should not report suspected illegal abortions to the police. The guidelines set out the legal obligations to respect confidentiality following an abortion, pregnancy loss or unexpected delivery. MWF believes that women, who may be in difficult situations, deserve to access safe abortion services without fear of persecution or judgement. MWF continues to urge the government to decriminalise abortion in the UK.
