The independent review of the future of postgraduate medical training over the next 30 years is complete. The review was led by Professor David Greenaway and included extensive consultation through seminars, written responses from individuals and organisations, workshops and oral evidence from stakeholders. I am pleased to say that MWF contributed extensively.
The final report is now available on the Shape of Training website. There are 19 recommendations but little in the way of concrete guidance. The emphasis is on broad based training and increased involvement in general medical care in the community. MWF are pleased to see recommendations on increased flexibility especially when changing specialty or within an academic training programme. It is recommended that subspecialty training is available after completion of specialty training as credentialing.
The last recommendation is that a UK Delivery Board is established to discuss how to take the recommendations forward.
